The problem
Freelancers in Germany consistently underestimate what they need to charge. Most available tax calculators show approximate numbers without explaining where the figures come from. We built a free, properly sourced alternative.
What we built
freiberechner.de is a bilingual tax and rate calculator for freelancers in Germany. Users enter their annual revenue and see exactly what remains after income tax, health insurance and social contributions, to the euro. Or they enter their target net income and see what they need to charge. Every figure links directly to its official source.
What went into it
Tax calculations were verified against five independently published reference points before launch. The tool covers statutory and KSK insurance schemes, Ehegattensplitting (joint assessment for married couples), church tax, and voluntary pension contributions. Legal requirements (Impressum, privacy policy, GDPR-compliant analytics, EU consent management for advertising) were built in from the start, not added as an afterthought. The tool is accessible, mobile-optimised, and available in German and English.
